Overview

Deal with misfires in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This standard comprises the following:

1 Identify type and position of misfire
2 Take remedial action with misfires
3 Recover explosive materials

You will be required to demonstrate that you can deal with misfires in accordance with the relevant workplace procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes blasting personnel.

Performance Criteria

1 Identify type and position of misfire

P1 electrical misfires before firing are correctly recognized and identified by an approved systematic method of testing
P2 signs of misfires are firing are correctly recognized and communicated to appropriate person(s) P3 located misfire is clearly marked in accordance with operational and organizational rules and procedures
P4 problems and conditions outside the responsibility of the candidate are referred to an authorized person
P5 work is carried out to approved procedures and practices and in compliance with statutory requirements

2 Take remedial action with misfires

P6 initial and remedial action(s) for dealing with a misfire are carried out in accordance with operational and organizational rules and procedures
P7 an exclusion zone is correctly secured in conformity with operational and organizational rules and procedures
P8 method of dealing with the misfire is recorded and reported clearly and accurately in accordance with operational and organizational procedures
P9 problems and conditions outside the responsibility of the candidate are referred to an authorized person
P10 work is carried out to approved procedures and practices and in compliance with statutory requirements
