Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to contribute to pre-disposal tasks for explosive substances and/or articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can make any necessary logistic arrangements, as directed, in accordance with your organization’s procedures and the disposal plan in accordance with approved procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as disposal and general explosives workers.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 confirm the serviceability of the equipment, consumables and services needed to complete the task
P3 carry out correctly any necessary tests of the equipment
P4 check that the work environment is suitable for the disposal task as directed
P5 make any necessary logistic arrangements, as directed, in accordance with your organization’s procedures and the disposal plan
P6 contribute to the disposal plan
P7 report problems beyond your level of authority to the appropriate person

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations, safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substances and/or articles
K4 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event
K5 the disposal plan, and your role in it
K6 the roles and responsibilities of team members
K7 the equipment, consumables and services needed to complete the task
K8 how to assemble, check and use the equipment
K9 why hazard and risk assessments are required, and your role in contributing to them
