Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to prepare and care for equipment in an explosives environment in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can confirm that the equipment meets the required standards of cleanliness and is set up correctly in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as operators who are responsible for the preparation and care of a range of equipment designed for use in an explosives environment.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 confirm that the equipment meets the required standards of cleanliness
P3 set up correctly and check the equipment in accordance with procedures
P4 record and report the outcomes of the set-up according to procedures
P5 monitor the continuing functioning of equipment, within its specified range
P6 report any defective equipment through the correct channels
P7 adhere to equipment care and control procedures

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substances and/or articles
K4 the actions to be taken in response to an unplanned event
K5 the purpose for which the equipment is to be used
K6 the physical environment in which the equipment is to be used and stored

K8 equipment operating, pre- and post-use procedures
K9 the importance of correct maintenance and calibration
