Overview

This standard covers the competences you need to submit proposals for research work for explosive substances and/or articles in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can state the aims and objectives of the research in the proposal justifying the selection of particular methods, and the setting of priorities in the research in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes individuals working as research leaders.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations, legislation and guidelines
P2 state the aims and objectives of the research in the proposal
P3 present the significance and value of the proposed research and its outcomes with reference to previous and ongoing research work
P4 specify the main stages and tasks of the research, and the method to be used
P5 justify the selection of particular methods, and the setting of priorities in the research
P6 state the required contribution of all parties toward achieving the goals of the research
P7 set timescales, resources, staffing and budgets for the work, in sufficient detail to enable decisions to be made
P8 record and communicate any amendments to the proposal
P9 obtain the appropriate authorization prior to submitting the proposal
P10 ensure that the proposal arrives at its destination, in the correct format, within the required timescale
P11 maintain the requirements of confidentiality at all times

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations and safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
K2 the relevance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
K3 the nature, characteristics, hazards and risks of the explosive substances and/or articles
