9.1 Define explosives facilities requirement

This standard covers the competences you need to define explosives facilities requirement in accordance with approved procedures and practices.

You will be required to demonstrate that you can confirm the uses of the facility and its associated explosives-related hazards, ensuring that your specification meets the business and regulatory requirements in accordance with approved procedures.

This activity is likely to be undertaken by someone whose work role involves Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions or Explosives work activities. This includes people working as manufacturing, storage and disposal managers.

Performance Criteria

P1 work safely at all times, complying with health and safety, environmental and other relevant regulations and guidelines
P2 confirm the uses of the facility and its associated explosives-relatedhazards
P3 identify the plant, equipment and facility layout requirement
P4 assess the siting options and identify the optimum
P5 consult the relevant external authorities on your preliminary design and siting
P6 ensure that your specification meets the business and regulatory requirements
P7 obtain the necessary internal approval for your specification
P8 submit any associated safety documentation to obtain the necessary approvals

Knowledge and Understanding

K1 the health, safety and environmental and other statutory legislation, regulations, safe working practices and procedures governing explosives and their implications for your area of work
